March 19th Service Day
Four (4) different church groups totaling 54 spent the day being challenged by Mission Indy and then serving as follows:

A group from Mt. Auburn UMC (Greenwood, IN) did amazing garden work at The Julian Center, a shelter for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.

The group pulled and dug up weeds and old plants, then added many loads of new dirt and fertilizer mix to the raised garden beds.

017

Then they spread fresh mulch on the playground.

A group from Plainfield CC served at the sports facilities of Jireh Sports, a Shepherd Community ministry in the Martindale-Brightwood area.

One of the big jobs was to move several weight-lifting machines down into a pit.

Then all of the wrestling mats were mopped and disinfected.

The 3rd group was from Highland Church of Christ in Robinson, IL. They were a large group so were split them between two sites. One did demolition work for one of the Englewood CDC projects.

As usual there was a lot of stuff to put into the dumpster!

A small group from Fairland CC (Niles, MI) worked with this group.

The other part of the Highland C of C group tore off part of a back porch room for Shepherd Community's Intern House.

Spring Break Trip
For April 4th — 8th Mission Indy put together a customized trip for East 91st where we provided a combination of experiential learning and service opportunities. The group experienced riding city buses and visiting places like the Marion County Jail, Salvation Army Thrift Store, and a local pawn shop.

Everything we did involved debriefing what was learned.

The group also served in several different ways, including this demolition work.

They had a God-timed chance to serve back in their own "neighborhood" working with

kids from a nearby townhome complex. They all had great fun as seen here!

On Friday, the group experienced hanging out with senior citizens at Hawthorne Community Center.

The goal was to expose the teens and adults to many different ways that we, as followers of Jesus can love our neighbors and then to challenge this group to be even more faithful as the church at East 91st Street. Mission Indy hopes to do more of these customized trips in the future.
Weekend Retreat
A group from St. Andrews UMC out of Lafayette joined us for April 9th — 10th. On Saturday they served doing demolition and clean-up work at two different Englewood CDC projects.

015

The day started out with a miserably cold rain, but no one complained. They served as if serving Jesus Himself — which, in fact, is what we believe!

By about 2:00, the day turned out sunny and much warmer, which helped us finish strong.
April 16th Service Day
Three large groups joined MI for this last service day before the Summer Program begins.

Hazelwood CC continued work on the interior demolition of the Englewood CDC project at 46 N,. Oxford Street. Camera problems left us with no good pictures to show this work.

A group from Oak Grove Mennonite Church in West Liberty, Ohio drove over to serve with us. Interns from 2010, Alex and Erin Dye led the group and it was a great reunion for us.
